Internet pharmacy verification

LegitScript's Internet pharmacy verification program is the largest in the world. Our program is identified by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy as the only Internet pharmacy verification service, other than the NABP's own program, that adheres to its standards. These standards are designed to protect patients, and are based on legality, safety and transparency.

We break down the world of Internet pharmacies into four categories.

  1. Legitimate. This means that LegitScript has reviewed the Internet pharmacy. We have determined that it meets our standards, is in compliance with US federal and state laws and regulations, and is operating safely and transparently. However, we continue to monitor the website for compliance.
  2. Unverified. Usually, this means that we have not yet had a chance to determine if the Internet pharmacy is legitimate or not. Sometimes, it includes Internet pharmacies with a very small but fixable, and likely unintentional, problem.
  3. Unapproved. LegitScript has verified that the Internet pharmacy fails to meet LegitScript standards in some way. An unapproved pharmacy may or may not also be a "rogue" Internet pharmacy.
  4. Rogue. LegitScript has confirmed that the website 1) violates, appears to violate, or encourages violation of Federal or state law or regulation; 2) does not adhere to accepted standards of medicine and/or pharmacy practice, including standards of safety; and/or 3) engages in fraudulent or deceptive business practices.

Although LegitScript is currently focused on the US market, our standards for approval require that Internet pharmacies adhere to the laws in any jurisdiction where they offer to dispense or send prescription drugs, whether in the US or another country.

I'm an Internet pharmacy ⎯ why should I get certified by LegitScript?

LegitScript is the authority on legitimate Internet pharmacies. We make our list of LegitScript-approved Internet pharmacies available to regulators, risk management companies, domain name registrars, consumer review websites, and other companies. Most importantly, Internet users who want to find a safe online pharmacy use us as a resource. LegitScript approval shows that you put consumer health and safety first. LegitScript certification is currently free for legitimate Internet pharmacies.

My company needs to verify that Internet pharmacies we do business with are legitimate. Can LegitScript help?

Yes. We provide verification reports used by third-party companies to minimize risk and liability. The reports provide an extensive analysis of the Internet pharmacy's compliance with relevant laws, regulations and accepted standards of safety and ethics. Pricing typically ranges between $250 and $1,500 per website report. Contact us for details.
