YouTube Offers New Channel Certification To Tackle Healthcare Misinformation

The pandemic highlighted the dangers of allowing medical misinformation to spread across the Internet without oversight. YouTube, as the world’s largest video information source and search engine, quickly recognized the problem and last year instituted a system of accreditation.

Applications to become an official YouTube health source were originally only open to larger organizations, such as hospitals, educational institutions and public health departments. Google, in partnership with LegitScript, has opened up the application process to a wider set of professionals. This now includes individuals and smaller entities who offer professionally qualified health services.
