The Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies, a non-profit that LegitScript serves on the board of and helped found, is accepting nominations for Internet pharmacy safety. The idea is to recognize the good work that a variety of companies in the payments, domain name registration, search advertisement and similar sectors are doing to protect patient safety and prevent the use of their services by rogue Internet pharmacy criminals.
Over the years, there's been a good amount of attention paid to third parties that have turned a blind eye to rogue Internet pharmacies using their services. Some companies have been indicted and/or paid fines, while LegitScript hasn't hesitated to call out, either in our blog or in public reports, companies (especially domain name registrars) that ignore abuse notifications, like our recent blog calling out Gransy, a Czech registrar that we think is too friendly with multi-national criminal networks.
But it's important to balance those blogs and reports out with appreciation for the large number of companies that quietly and consistently turn away customers, or would-be customers, engaged in illicit drug sales. There's a long list. We've expressed appreciation in the past to Google, Bing, Visa, Blacknight, eNom (Rightside), GoDaddy, Neustar (on .US domain names), NetOwl in Japan, and many others. In particular, there is a long list of ICANN-accredited registrars and registries that are highly responsive and deserve public acclaim for their abuse policies. The ASOP awards are an opportunity to recognize those companies and show that appreciation.
Nominations can be sent to the ASOP's nominations email address, and can come from any interested party.
