Product Classifications

Red Flag
A product that should not be marketed or sold because it is:

  • unsafe or has no currently accepted medical use with a high potential for abuse; or
  • is tainted with toxins or active pharmaceutical ingredients; or
  • intrinsically implies efficacy of an approved drug; or
  • is marketed or used for psychoactive purposes.
Orange Flag
A product that has a market status that either means it cannot be sold at this time or has significant restrictions for sale.
Yellow Flag
A product that could potentially be non-problematic, but may imply or make claims suggesting it is safe or effective to treat, cure, mitigate or prevent a medical condition or make unsubstantiated structure/function claims.
Prescription
An approved prescription drug for human use.
Animal RX
An approved prescription drug for animal use.
OTC
An approved Over-The-Counter drug for human use.
Animal OTC
An approved Over-The-Counter drug for animal use.
Tentative
This is a tentatively approved drug.
Hospital
An approved drug available only from a hospital.
Pharmacy-Only
An approved drug available only from a pharmacy. Pharmacy-only products do not require a prescription.
