In the most recent example of consumable products tainted with active pharmaceutical ingredients, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) testing found hidden sildenafil and tadalafil in Boner Bears products.
Learn what these tainted treats mean for payment processors, why the packaging is problematic, and how to better identify these violative products.
Sexual Enhancement in Disguise
Decadent chocolate and wildflower honey: These unassuming confections are the new face of sexual enhancement. Marketed as “all-natural” alternatives to prescription erectile dysfunction (ED) medication, and cheaper than a doctor’s visit, they appear harmless. Many are not. FDA testing has found undeclared prescription drug ingredients in several of these products, which can cause dangerous side effects when taken without the guidance of a medical professional.
In 2023, LegitScript spotlighted tainted Royal Honey, a product the FDA has repeatedly found to contain hidden ED drug ingredients. Since then, similar products have appeared in droves. A recent example is Boner Bears, a product line sold in the form of sugary treats like honey and chocolate. LegitScript has observed increased card brand scrutiny of these confections, and in 2026, FDA laboratory analysis confirmed undeclared sildenafil, tadalafil, or both in multiple Boner Bears products.
Boner Bears products are sold in colorful, disarming packaging and marketed as natural, plant-based sexual and energy enhancers, often listing herbal ingredients such as ginkgo biloba and tribulus terrestris. While not every Boner Bears product has been confirmed to contain hidden pharmaceuticals, LegitScript considers the entire product line a high-priority risk. Here is what we know so far.
Boner Bears: The Cutest ED Drugs on the FDA’s Radar
FDA laboratory analysis has confirmed undeclared active pharmaceutical ingredients in the following products.
Boner Bears Chocolate
On February 13, 2026, the FDA issued a public notification warning consumers that Boner Bears Chocolate Bars and Boner Bears Chocolate Syrup contain sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra. Sildenafil is not listed on either product’s label.

Boner Bears Honey
On March 14, 2026, Pure Vitamins and Natural Supplements LLC announced a voluntary nationwide recall of Boner Bears Honey after FDA laboratory analysis found undeclared sildenafil and tadalafil, the active ingredients in Viagra and Cialis. The FDA issued its own consumer health warning on March 30, 2026.

A Saturated Market
The FDA has acknowledged that it is unable to test every product marketed as a dietary supplement for hidden ingredients. Supplements and conventional foods such as honey that contain undeclared APIs have become an increasingly common trend, and new products and evolving packaging have outpaced the speed at which regulators can verify their safety. The FDA advises consumers to exercise caution with any product marketed in a similar way.
LegitScript has found that many ED products resembling those confirmed to contain hidden pharmaceuticals share the same warning signs:
- Marketing as an ED treatment or a natural sexual enhancement supplement
- Age restrictions of 18+ or 21+
- Side effect warnings similar to those for products containing sildenafil or tadalafil

LegitScript recognizes the importance of tracking both FDA-reported products and their lookalikes. Our analysts report products confirmed to contain undeclared ingredients, along with similar products that could cause consumer harm and lead to card brand scrutiny. This gives clients earlier visibility into emerging threats.

The Real Risk Behind the Packaging
Despite colorful packaging and fun flavors, these products pose real risk. Sildenafil and tadalafil may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, such as nitroglycerin, and can lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates. This is why ED drugs are normally available only under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional.
The financial risk is just as real. Products tainted with undeclared pharmaceuticals are often the subject of card brand notifications under the tainted nutraceuticals risk category. Because the problematic ingredients are unlisted and the number of confirmed tainted products continues to grow, payment processors and merchants alike may not know these products are in their portfolios until a notification arrives.
