Q&A With Blue Ridge Payment Partners

In this Q&A, Blue Ridge Payment Partners shares how they combine industry knowledge with personalized support to help healthcare providers navigate certification requirements, overcome payment processing hurdles, and position their businesses for sustainable growth.

Tell us about Blue Ridge Payment Partners. Who do you serve, and what does “a true partner always by your side” mean in practice for your merchants?

For us, being a true partner means the relationship continues well beyond the sale. Once a business becomes our client, we keep looking for ways to support its growth through better tools, resources, and ongoing guidance. That includes helping clients understand changes in the payments industry, new compliance requirements, and card brand updates that may affect their business.

We stay engaged with our processors, sponsor banks, and partners to understand what’s changing and find practical solutions. Our goal is to keep earning our clients’ business by providing value as their needs evolve.

Blue Ridge works with businesses across a lot of categories and sizes. How did healthcare merchants become a part of your portfolio, and what did you notice about the challenges they were facing?

Our healthcare portfolio has grown through our relationships with practices and the software platforms they use. As we became more involved in that space, we saw how difficult it could be for a legitimate healthcare business to find payment partners that understood its operating model.

A practice’s services, prescribing model, pharmacy relationships, and use of telehealth can all affect underwriting. Providers understand the clinical side of their business, but many haven’t received clear guidance on payment processing and certification requirements. We saw an opportunity to help them connect those pieces and make informed decisions earlier.

Many healthcare merchants don’t realize they need LegitScript Healthcare Certification to advertise and process payments until they hit a wall. What did that look like for the merchants you work with?

We often meet providers who have spent months preparing to launch a practice. They’ve invested in their website and software, and they’re excited to start seeing patients. Then they discover their chosen processor doesn’t support their business model or requires certification they hadn’t planned for. They may also encounter advertising restrictions when they start promoting the practice.

The frustration comes from finding out so late. We help them understand what’s causing the roadblocks, where certification fits, and what they need to address. Whenever possible, we have those conversations before they reach that point.

As a relationship-first ISO, how does your team’s hands-on approach change the experience of a merchant navigating certification for the first time?

We stay involved throughout the process. We help merchants understand the application questions, review their websites for potential concerns, organize supporting information, and work through follow-up requests.

We encourage clients to reach out whenever a question is unclear. Helping them provide a concise, accurate explanation of how their practice operates can prevent confusion and unnecessary back-and-forth. The merchant remains responsible for its information and operations, but it has someone available to explain the process and help it move forward.

What led Blue Ridge to become a LegitScript Enterprise Referral Partner, and how does it fit into the way you already support your merchants?

About a year and a half ago, we recognized that LegitScript certification was becoming increasingly important for the healthcare businesses we serve. We started having conversations with our processors and sponsor banks to understand their requirements and where certification fit into the underwriting process.

We then connected with LegitScript to understand its program and how a partnership could benefit our clients. We wanted to make certification easier to navigate, reduce avoidable delays and stress, and provide hands-on support throughout the process.

That fits directly into how we serve our clients. We look ahead, identify requirements that could affect their business, and help them prepare. Certification can open doors to payment processing and advertising opportunities, giving practices more ways to reach patients and grow.

How has having a dedicated LegitScript account team behind you changed how you’re able to guide merchants through the certification process?

A CEO and mentor of mine has always said, “You don’t know what you don’t know.” That applies here. We came into this with experience in payments, but we weren’t LegitScript certification experts. Having a dedicated team to educate us, provide ongoing training and documentation, and talk through complex situations has been invaluable.

Healthcare businesses have nuances that don’t always fit into a straightforward question or support ticket. Being able to schedule a call, explain how a practice operates, and work through the questions together helps us understand the requirements and give our merchants clearer guidance.

Since August 2025, the knowledge we’ve gained through that relationship has expanded what we can provide to clients. It informs how we help them prepare for certification, review their websites, and understand how their advertising and social media content can affect the process. Our role is to help them understand the requirements and accurately present their business.

With hundreds of healthcare clients and close to 100 LegitScript certifications under our belt, we’ve gained practical experience identifying issues early. The dedicated LegitScript team is a major part of that, helping us guide new practices from the start and support established practices as questions arise.

Since becoming an Enterprise Referral Partner, what difference have you seen for your healthcare merchants, whether in how quickly they get to market, how confident they feel, or how they view Blue Ridge as a partner?

The biggest difference is that merchants have a clearer path and someone helping them follow it. Certification can feel overwhelming when a provider is also trying to run a practice or launch a new business.

We help them identify what needs attention, prepare their information, and understand the next steps. Review timing varies by application, but better preparation helps reduce avoidable confusion and back-and-forth.

That support also strengthens our relationship. Clients see that we’re invested in helping them get their business ready and supporting them beyond the payment processing setup.

Has the ability to offer certification support changed anything about how Blue Ridge wins or retains healthcare merchant relationships?

Yes. It gives us a broader way to support healthcare practices and demonstrate our understanding of the challenges they face.

A provider may initially contact us for payment processing, but that conversation often expands to software integrations, certification, website content, and plans for growth. Being able to help connect those areas gives clients a reason to involve us early and continue turning to us as their business evolves.

We want clients to stay because the support they receive continues to be valuable. Certification support is an important part of that ongoing relationship.

What would you tell another payments partner or ISO who is considering bringing LegitScript certification to their own healthcare merchants?

Take the time to understand your merchants’ business models and where certification fits. Build relationships with your processors, sponsor banks, and LegitScript, and have these conversations early.

Be prepared to stay involved. Merchants need help understanding the questions, gathering information, and setting realistic expectations. You also need to keep learning as requirements and business models evolve.

The opportunity is to become a more informed, dependable resource for your clients. When you help them anticipate challenges and prepare properly, you create value that extends well beyond setting up their payment processing.
