Q&A With Chad Heidt

In the following Q&A, Chad explores the challenges facing telehealth founders and how Karpa Health, along with LegitScript support, simplifies compliance, certification, and operational complexity.

Tell us about Karpa Health. Who are the people launching telehealth businesses on your platform, and what do they typically bring to the table versus what they need you to handle?

Karpa Health helps people launch and run telehealth businesses.
We work with entrepreneurs, creators, gym owners, med spa owners, and existing healthcare businesses. Usually they already have a brand, an audience, or a strong idea of who they want to serve.
What they often need is everything behind the scenes. Karpa brings together the software, licensed providers, pharmacy fulfillment, payments, patient experience, and support they need to launch and operate a telehealth program.
The simple way to think about it is: the founder brings the brand and the audience; Karpa provides the infrastructure needed to turn that opportunity into a functioning telehealth business.

A lot of your operators are entrepreneurs and influencers rather than clinicians or compliance experts. What does that audience understand well, and where do they tend to need the most guidance?

They usually know their customer really well. They know how to build a brand, create content, and build trust with an audience.
What they usually don't know is the maze of rules and operational requirements that come with healthcare. There are important considerations around payment processing, paid advertising, HIPAA, pharmacies, providers, and how certain healthcare products and services can be marketed or sold.
It can take years, and a lot of expensive mistakes, to learn all of that from scratch.
That's where we come in. Karpa gives aspiring telehealth owners a turnkey platform and a team that already knows this space, so those lessons don't have to be learned the expensive way.

For a founder who has an audience and a brand idea but no clinical or regulatory background, what are the biggest surprises they run into when they try to launch a telehealth business?

The biggest surprise is that getting the website live is actually the easy part.
A founder can have a great brand, a doctor, and a pharmacy and still run into major problems. Can the business get approved for the payment processing it needs? Can it run the paid advertising it planned? Are the products and services it offers consistent with its payment processor's requirements? Is its marketing compliant?
Those are the questions founders often don't know to ask until something goes wrong.
That's why we think about these issues before launch. The goal isn't simply to get a website online. It's to help build a telehealth business on infrastructure that can support the business at scale.

LegitScript Certification is one of those requirements many first-time operators don't see coming. How do you introduce it to a non-clinical founder so it feels like a step forward rather than a roadblock?

We explain it with real examples because we've seen what happens when important requirements are left until later.
We've had multiple founders come to Karpa after launching on other telehealth platforms. Some had their funds frozen with their payment processors. Others had difficulty getting or maintaining access to paid advertising. In many cases, the problems surfaced only after the business had already invested time, money, and effort into launching.
That's a nightmare when you already have customers and momentum.
We explain LegitScript as part of the launch process rather than as a box to check after the business is live. Getting LegitScript certified can help reduce avoidable surprises later.

Karpa is a LegitScript Certified Enterprise Partner. What does that actually change for an entrepreneur who would otherwise be navigating certification alone?

It takes a lot of the work and guesswork off the founder's plate.
Karpa itself has gone through LegitScript's certification process as a telehealth infrastructure platform. We also work with provider and pharmacy partners that meet the requirements we look for in our infrastructure.
We help our clients prepare their LegitScript application, collect the required information, and identify potential issues before submission. We also provide access to expedited processing and dedicated partnership support.
That matters because founders shouldn't have to become experts in the certification process just to launch their telehealth business. We have gone through the process ourselves and built it into our launch roadmap.

What led Karpa to build certification support into the platform through an enterprise partnership with LegitScript, rather than leaving it to each operator to figure out?

We'd already seen what happens when those requirements get left until later, from founders who came to us after running into exactly those problems on other platforms. We didn't think it made sense to leave every operator to rediscover that the hard way.
And we didn't want certification support to stop at the customer's website. We wanted the Karpa platform and the provider and pharmacy infrastructure behind it to be thoughtfully designed around healthcare requirements too.
So we built LegitScript support into the Karpa launch process from day one.

How does having a dedicated LegitScript account team behind you change the experience for founders navigating healthcare compliance for the first time?

The expedited review and dedicated support are especially valuable.
We regularly talk to founders who have spent weeks or months navigating certification processes on their own. Having a dedicated LegitScript team to bring questions to, rather than figuring it out alone, changes that experience a lot.
That combination can remove a major source of uncertainty when you're trying to launch. Founders can address certification requirements alongside payment processing, advertising, and the rest of their launch plan instead of treating them as an afterthought.

Since partnering with LegitScript, what difference have you seen for your operators in how confidently they launch and plan for growth?

The biggest difference is that certification is part of the plan from the beginning.
For a new Karpa founder, we're thinking about payment processing, paid advertising, and other operational requirements before they go live. That is very different from launching first and discovering later that an important part of the business needs to be changed.
They also know that the technology, provider network, and pharmacy relationships behind the business have been thought through from the start.
We've seen the other side too, which is part of why we built it into the process from the start rather than leaving it as an afterthought.
The goal is simple: get the important pieces right before they become an emergency.

Has making certification support part of the Karpa experience changed how you attract or retain the entrepreneurs and influencers choosing your platform?

Definitely. Founders are becoming much more educated about the risks of launching telehealth the wrong way.
They don't just ask us, “Can you give me a doctor and a pharmacy?” They ask, “Can I use my preferred payment processor? Can I run Google and Meta ads? Is this business actually set up to scale?”
Those are the right questions.
Being a LegitScript Certified Enterprise Partner means we can think through those considerations with eligible customers before launch. We can also show them that Karpa itself has gone through the certification process.
Getting live is one thing. We want to help them build a business that can continue taking payments, acquiring customers, and serving patients as it grows.

What would you tell a first-time founder who has the audience and the brand vision but is intimidated by the compliance side of launching in healthcare?

I'd tell them not to be intimidated by it, but definitely respect it.
If you already have an audience, a strong brand, and a clear idea of who you want to serve, you already have something valuable.
You don't need to spend years becoming an expert in pharmacies, provider networks, software, payments, paid advertising, and healthcare compliance.
You need the right people around you who already understand those things.
That's really why we built Karpa. We want founders focused on building the brand and serving their customers while Karpa handles the hard infrastructure behind the scenes.
The website is only the beginning. The real goal is to launch a telehealth business that is built to operate and grow.
